HUMILITY

This is a poem I received in an email from my brother. Enjoy Sisters!

POEM ON HUMILITY

I asked God for strength that I might achieve;
I was made weak that I might humbly obey.

I asked for health that I might do great things;
I was given sickness that I might do better things.

I asked for riches that I might be happy;
I was given poverty that I might be wise.

I asked for power to have the praise of others;
I was given weakness to feel the need for God.

I asked for all things that I might enjoy life;
I was given life that I might enjoy all things.

I received nothing I asked for,
But everything I hoped for.

Almost despite myself,
My unspoken prayer was answered;
I am among all people, most richly blessed!

  1. Yes - Our heavenly Father may not give us what we ask for at times because what we ask for may not be good for our soul; however, often he does give us what we ask for. Matthew 7:9-11 states "Is there anyone among you who if your child asks for a fish, will give a snake? If your then who are evil, know how to give good gifts to yourchildrenm how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask him!" And, God states "Ask and you shall receive..." So we should express our hearts desires to God.

    May be we need to end the prayer request with "However, Father, if my request is not granted please give me the courage and strength for your will to be done."

  2. Yes! Thank you Prayer Warrior & Only 1Holy Spirit. When we ask for things of this world & He gives us what leads us to Salvation! If only I could recognize that & embrace the cross instead of avoiding that cross!

  3. Yes - we should simply ask "Dear God give me what is best for my soul". O' boy watch out.......May be it will reveal that we really don't want God's will but our own desires! Yikes!
